Street Kitchen: The Airstream (fresh seasonal street food)
The grub: As with the Hatch, this is seriously good restaurant-style grub served in takeaway boxes with wooden cutlery. If it hasn’t run out by the time you make it down, there might be still be some crispy chicken, a beef burger or yoghurt mousse with fruit compote left to try.
The vibe: Being the City’s top gourmet catering service during the week, expect busy lunchtime queues. With that in mind, don’t imagine you’ll be able to chat with the boys until the rush is over as they’ve got lots of mouths and only a few hours to feed them.
The story: See page on The Hatch. Mark Jankel and Jun Tanaka are the brains behind Street Kitchen, which launched in 2010 as a pop up. It’s all about good sustainable ingredients sourced locally and tasting great but they also want you to be able to eat it with one hand and to have fun in the process. Both guys are properly trained chefs and know their stuff. Just won best burger at the British Street Food Awards 2012.
The tab: From £5.50/box
